Toxin-Free Home: DIY Hairspray

For the toxin-free home series, I'm specifically trying to provide ideas to switch up products that likely have daily use at home. The toxins have to go, from the food we eat, to the products we use, in order to heal our hormones & give our bodies the chance to keep us healthy (with a strong immune system) and burn fat.

I'm pretty excited about this one because I have had a heck of a time finding a "clean" hairspray and this one costs pennies, 2 ingredients, & 10 minutes to make!

I did the ultimate test by trying it out with some curls using my barrel curling iron. I have really thick, coarse hair, so it won't hold curl unless I use quite a bit of hairspray & a really hot curling iron. I think it worked great! It also made me smell "sweeter" too! ;0)

It's kind of funny, because I don't keep granulated sugar at home, I tried it with brown granulated palm sugar. What that means, is my hairspray is brown instead of clear. It looks funny but still worked! Can't wait to hear what you think!

DIY Hairspray

Ingredients
1 cup distilled or filtered water
1-4 tsp organic granulated sugar (use more sugar for a stronger "hold." I used 4 tsp for mine)

Directions
1. Bring water to a boil in a small pan.
2. Reduce heat and simmer for at least 10 minutes. Take off heat.
3. Stir in sugar & mix until dissolved.
4. Let cool & then pour into a fine mist hairspray bottle (you'll want a light, even coating when using it on your hair).
4. Apply to hair as needed.

How is the fruit for dessert challenge going so far this week? I hope you try out the berries with coconut milk whipped cream because ours was incredible!
